E. Gutzwiller & Cie, Banquiers was founded in Basel in 1886 by Carl Gutzwiller, and is now owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Gutzwiller family and their partners. Our family business structure ensures a clear and simple governance and rapid decision-making. Today, we look after clients from around the world from our offices in Basel, Geneva and Zurich.
As owners, Managing Partners invest their own capital and are ultimately personally (jointly and severally) liable for their bank’s obligations – ensuring that interests are aligned with clients and that risks are carefully managed. Gutzwiller was a founding member of the Swiss Private Bankers Association, and feels strongly that this entrepreneurial model represents private banking as it should be. Indeed, in Switzerland, only Banquiers can call themselves ‘Private bankers’.
While the economic and market environment may go in cycles, there are constants at Gutzwiller: a clear focus on private banking and portfolio management; steering clear of risky activities; valuing our independence and stability; and putting our clients first.
For us, the interests of the Bank and its clients are indivisible, always treating clients as we would want to be treated ourselves. We believe there are a number of other reasons why clients come to us and stay:
- We are of a human size and convinced as to the importance of relationships; and that information technology is no substitute for personal interaction, chemistry and expertise.
- In delivering solutions, we are always focused on the needs of clients, simplifying complexity on their behalf.
- We are committed to providing continuity – within the Bank, in client relationships, and with a sustainable approach to investing.
We and our clients evolve and grow together, and we are convinced that E. Gutzwiller & Cie, Banquiers also has a special character that clients readily appreciate. Of course, this has to be experienced – if you are new to our house, we hope we will have the opportunity to meet soon.
